20 May 2024Hello, I'm Luca, and today I'll take you to one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, the wonderful Spello, a gem nestled at the foot of Mount Subasio, which has captured my heart with its timeless beauty.
The warm-toned houses and the splendid flowers that enrich every corner give Spello a unique atmosphere, a living painting that stands out against the blue sky and the green of the surrounding olive groves. My first stop is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, a masterpiece of Renaissance art that houses extraordinary frescoes and priceless works of art, especially the Baglioni Chapel, commissioned in 1500 by Troilo Baglioni to the artist Bernardino di Betto known as Pinturicchio. I admire the grandeur of the facade and the solemn atmosphere that pervades the entire building, allowing myself to be captivated by the spirituality and beauty that envelop it. I also recommend the beautiful Town Hall, Palazzo Urbani Acuti, and the church of San'Andrea. I continue my visit with a walk along the ancient city walls, from where I can admire breathtaking views of the valley heading to the Villa dei Mosaici, an exceptional archaeological discovery from 2005 of a Roman villa from the imperial age where an extraordinarily important museum has been created.
My day ends with a visit to the village of Collepino, located on the surrounding hills. Here, among the cobbled streets and stone houses, I immerse myself in a fairy-tale atmosphere and decide to conclude my visit with a dinner in a cozy local trattoria, where I can taste the delicacies of Umbrian cuisine and toast to the beauty and uniqueness of Spello. Spello is truly a magical place, where history, art, and nature blend in perfect harmony, leaving me with precious memories and a burning desire to return soon to this corner of the Umbrian paradise.
