Foligno, Bevagna and Assisi

8 May 2024The first stop on my itinerary is the splendid Piazza del Comune, the pulsating heart of the city. The square is a true marvel, with the Town Hall dominating with its elegance and the Civic Tower rising majestically. I sit on a bench and observe the daily life unfolding around me: children playing, elderly people chatting, and tourists fascinated by the beauty of the place. The square is lively and animated, with outdoor cafes inviting to a relaxing break.
I continue my visit with a stop at the San Francesco Museum, a jewel that houses multiple frescoes including those by Perugino, on the counter-facade, but the most famous ones are placed in the central apse, where in the 15th century, Benozzo Gozzoli painted the Stories of the Life of Saint Francis, the most complete cycle on the life of the Saint, after that of Assisi. In addition to the church, the other rooms of the museum also deserve a thorough visit, including the cellars, where the splendid oak and elm wood press for pressing grapes is preserved, and, in particular, the beautiful Roman statue depicting the hero Hercules, dating back to the 1st century BC.
