Foligno
8 May 2024The first stop of my excursion is the village of Pale, a small gem nestled among the mountains. As soon as I arrive, I am struck by the beauty and serenity of the place. Pale is known for the waterfalls of the Menotre River and the Grotte dell'Abbadessa, which offer an incredible natural spectacle. The relaxing sound of flowing water envelops me, creating an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Strolling among the ancient stone houses, I am fascinated by the stories and traditions of this timeless village.
I then head towards the Hermitage of Santa Maria Giacobbe, nestled in a natural cavity of the mountain. The path leading to the hermitage is marked by the 14 stations of the Via Crucis and offers spectacular panoramic views of the valley below. Arriving at the hermitage, I am fascinated by the frescoes behind the altar, on the rock of the mountain; three figures dating back to the 13th-14th century representing S. Maria Giacobbe, S. Lucia, and San Luca evangelist, for its simplicity and spirituality that reigns there.
After exploring Pale, I continue my journey towards Rasiglia, another enchanted village, often called the "Little Venice of Umbria" for its spring and its canals. Rasiglia is a magical place, where water takes center stage. The streams that cross the village create a unique atmosphere, reflecting the sunlight and filling the air with freshness and vitality. Walking among the canals and listening to the sound of flowing water is an experience of pure relaxation, allowing me to completely disconnect from the daily hustle and bustle. The houses of Rasiglia, with their warm colors and flowered facades, seem to come out of a fairy tale. Every corner of the village tells a story, and I lose myself in the cobblestone streets, admiring the care and love with which the inhabitants keep this enchanting place alive.
